Arrival & Morning Routine
Students settle in, review their visual schedule, and start the day with a calm, consistent routine. This helps ease transitions and sets a steady tone for learning.
Small-Group Academic Time
Students work in small, skill-based groups (not necessarily grouped by age/grade level) for language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Independent Work Systems
Students practice independence using structured independent assignments, designed to be clear, manageable, and achievable. Tasks are broken into short steps so students experience success.
Movement & Regulation
Throughout the day, students have scheduled opportunities to move, reset, and regulate. Sensory tools and calm-down spaces are available as needed.
Snack & Social Time
Students practice conversation, turn-taking, flexibility, problem solving skills, and peer interaction in a relaxed, supported setting.
Hands On Learning
Learning extends beyond worksheets through hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and creative exploration.
Neurodevelopmental Movement & Exercises
We integrate short physical and mental exercises that are shown to help neurodevelopment, focus, and regulation.
Flex-Fridays
Fridays focus on reinforcement, fun projects, social development, and individualized support.
What is Flex Friday?
Embark holds classes on Fridays from 8:00-12:00, just like the rest of the week. Students may attend every Friday, or occasionally skip a Friday. We purposefully plan our Friday curriculum to allow Fridays to be easily missed if needed for families who want to go on trips, need time off for doctor's visits, or for those who need an extra day to catch up on lessons.
On Flex Fridays, academically, we focus on reviewing and catching up students struggling on lessons covered Monday-Thursday. On Flex Fridays, we focus more time on social development and life skills, and a little less on academics.
Families may schedule (with Embark approval) outside therapies and extra-curriculars to work with their child on site during Flex Fridays. Your child may step out of class for a speech therapy appointment or piano lesson without fear of missing out on core academic lessons.
Flex Fridays provide families with the freedom to occasionally take off for a 3-day weekend without missing new academic lessons.
Flex Fridays allow families to schedule doctor's appointments without the frustration and challenges of missing out on academic instruction.
