Embark Operates as a microschool that supports homeschooling families. Parents remain responsible for their child's homeschool status and legal paperwork, while Embark provides structured instruction on core subjects (language arts, math, science, social studies), social development, and a supportive learning environment. Legally, our families are homeschoolers and responsible for their child's education, while Embark provides education services for its families.
Embark currently services elementary-aged students in small, skill-based groups. We focus on creating an environment where students can grow academically and socially at their own pace. The 2026/2027 school year will serve grades K-2, with potential for adding a grades 3-5 group as well.
Oyr program is designed for neurodivergent learners who benefit from structure, small-group instruction, and a supportive environment. Many of our students have autism, ADHD, sensory differences, or related learning needs.
Embark is best suited for students who can participate safely in a small-group setting and do not require constant 1:1 supervision. Because we are a small program, we are not able to provide intensive clinical or therapeutic placement. We do not have the staffing or facilities to support those with moderate to high medical needs, or those who need intense behavioral support.
Some exceptions can be made, on a case-by-case basis, for those who have full-time therapists attend school with them. We do allow students to attend with their RBTs-- with prior approval from Embark-- if needed to help them be safe and successful in the environment.
We intentionally keep class sizes small to provide individualized attention, predictable routines, and a calm learning environment. At this time, our classes max out at 12 students, supported by a main classroom teacher, a parent aide, and sometimes an additional floating aide.
Our schedule is designed with therapy needs in mind! Our academic classes are in the mornings from 8:00-12:00, Monday through Friday. This allows the child to attend therapies in the afternoons without missing academic coursework. We purposefully schedule our ending time so parents can utilize their lunch breaks to pick up their children and transport them to their chosen therapy center.
Additionally, we provide Fridays as a "flex day!" Core academic work is taught Mondays through Thursdays. We use Fridays as a flex day, allowing children to use the day a number of ways:
-catch up on any work missed during the week due to absence or a slower working pace
-get extra help on difficult skills
-schedule a traveling therapist to provide services at our site
-take a day off without being penalized academically or with truancy concerns
-spend more time socially with peers
We understand that hard days happen.
Our environment includes structured routines, visual supports, and regulation tools to help students reset and return to learning.
While consistent attendance is important for learning and building routine, we understand that neurodivergent children sometimes have difficult days. Our attendance policy is intentionally more flexible than that of traditional public school systems. Families can feel at ease knowing that if a child needs to miss a day for emotional regulation, health, doctor's appointments, or therapeutic reasons, we approach those situations with understanding and communication rather than punishment. Our goal is to support the whole child and the family, not add stress or pressure during moments when flexibility is genuinely needed.
Embark is not on the list of schools that are able to take the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), otherwise knowns as "School Vouchers."
In order to maintain an environment that works best for our family's unique needs, we do not have plans to pursue being on the TEFA approved school list at this time. As the TEFA program requirements and stipulations become more clear, we will reassess our intentions regarding being an approved school.

Our focus is on meaningful learning during the school day. Homework expectations, if any, are light and designed to support-not overwhelm-- students and families.
We cover core subjects during the school day (language arts, math, science, social studies). Any additional coursework is done outside of our core program. We have outside providers who can teach extra-curriculars like music and art on site on our Friday flex days.
Short answer: YES!
We do this three ways:
Core subjects only: Embark Micro School is intentionally designed around focused, efficient learning, rather than long hours. Our program concentrates on core academic subjects only (language arts, math, science, and social studies), without many of the time-consuming transitions, large-group management, and non-instructional periods common in traditional school settings.
Grouped according to current skill level: Students are grouped according to their current skill level in each subject, rather than strictly by age or traditional public school grade level. This allows instruction to be more targeted, efficient, and responsive to individual learning needs. When children are working at an appropriate level, they are able to stay engaged, build confidence, and make meaningful progress without the frustration of being rushed ahead or held back.
Small class sizes: Our classes are small and our student-to-adult ratio is low. Each class has up to 12 students, with one teacher and an adult aide, giving Embark students a 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, rather than the usual 22:1 student-to-teacher ratio you see in public schools. Therefore, instruction is more direct, individualized, and responsive. Students spend more time actively engaged in learning and less time waiting, transitioning, or coping with overstimulation. For many neurodivergent learners, this kind of concentrated, well-supported instruction allows meaningful progress to happen in fewer hours, while still leaving room in the day for therapies, rest, and family life.
